Therapy Tree Tips
What Toys can be Beneficial in Therapy
- Parents, you're your child's best toy! Kids learn language best through back and forth interactions.
- Keep the toys simple, toys that look less ‘busy’ have been shown to help parents use more interesting/specific words during play. Also, having fewer toys out at a time helps kids focus
- Electronic toys may reduce the quantity and quality of language used during play.
- Anything you can play with can be a toy, think of things you already have in the house! Bowls? Cups? Muffin tins?
- Trips to fun places can make great gifts too! (Zoo lights, sledding, etc.)
- Books are always great for language learning.
“Wondering what toys to buy your little ones for the holidays? Here are a few considerations to keep in mind when thinking about what’s best for language development.. “
